Certified Flight Instructor Instrument Airplane

The Instrument Flight Instructor training program is a highly structured, comprehensive course designed to add on the Instrument rating to your current CFI Certificate. The training focuses on aspects of Instrument instructing. This course provides the knowledge and skills necessary to teach instrument flying in an airplane.

Ground training includes; the learning process; elements of effective teaching; student evaluation and testing; course development; lesson planning; classroom training techniques; preflight preparation and procedures related to IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) Operations; meteorology; aircraft flight instruments including navigation equipment and their principal of operation; aircraft control clearances and procedures; holding procedures; IFR flight planning; IFR charts and related publications; flight by reference to instruments; instrument approach procedures including VOR, NDB, ILS, GPS and Localizer; navigation aid training including VOR, VORTAC, NDB, and DME; emergency operations; advanced navigation including GPS.

The flight training syllabus includes fundamentals of instructing; technical subject areas;preflight preparation; preflight lesson on a maneuver to be performed in flight; air traffic control clearances and procedures; flight be reference to instruments; navigation systems; instrument approach procedures; emergency operations; and postflight procedures.


Minimum Required Hours

Flight Training: 15 hours minimum

Ground School: 15 hours minimum
